Writing and life update
I thought I’d give a bit of a writing and life update, to let you know how things are going.
Writing update
First of all, I am working on book 2 of the Planet Android series, Mysteries of Planet Android. The book is drafted, has been through the first round of revisions, and has received both beta feedback and a sensitivity read. The next step is to take in the feedback and complete the next draft. Then there will be several more checks (editing, proofreading), along with typesetting and file prep. We’re in the last school term here and fast approaching the summer school holidays. This will be our first time doing the ‘summer holiday thing’, so I’m hesitant to decide on a solid launch date for the book. It’s up for preorder with a date in March, but it may come out earlier if my child lets me work over the summer. Wish me luck!
I’ve also been working on a short story that I will submit to at least one anthology call. One way or another that story will make its way to you eventually.
Life update
This year has been a bit tricky to balance, to be honest. Settling my child into primary school often shot to the top of the list. But also, I’ve had some health challenges to deal with: my continued recovery from long COVID, a brand new chronic health condition that has required multiple appointments (thanks body), and last but not least, a broken big toe. Oh, well. Such is life. But my busy year has meant that I’ve been very quiet on the socials. I’ve not been doom scrolling, either. I’ve just been doing other things like reading and Duolingo when I pick up my phone.
I think it’s important for mental health to take breaks from the relentless grind of social media. As an indie author, such breaks may not be good for promoting ones books consistently, but they are good for actually getting some writing done. After all, what is an indie author without books to publish?
One highlight
I did get to do something fun this year. I had a family wedding to attend in Italy. I popped over for a far-too-short trip by myself, staying away from my family for as short a period as possible. But I did manage to squeeze in trips to Pompeii and the Roman Forum while I was over there. I never would have gone if not for necessity, but in the end I enjoyed the trip immensely.
